Weight and Portability of Business Projectors

What you should know

An important factor to consider before purchasing a projector is its weight and portability. What role is the projector to play in your business model: Are you a road warrior salesperson on the go? Or are you looking at projector that will be a permanent fixture in your boardroom?

High Travel

If you intend to travel with the projector from sales pitch to sales pitch a 6 pound projector would be a good selection as a 6 pound projector is similar in weight to that of a laptop. So if lugging a laptop in a shoulder bag isn’t too difficult for you, opt for a projector that is around 6 pounds. If you need more than 2500 lumens of brightness or extra features, you’ll probably be looking for a projector in the 6-10 pound range. These projectors are a little more robust, and probably ship with a standard projector case rather than an over-the-shoulder case.

Medium Travel

If the projector will occasionally be taken on the road or placed on the boardroom table from time to time a projector in the 6-10 pound range would be a good selection. This class of projectors are still very portable but offer increased brightness and more features then their sub 6 pound cousins.

Low Travel

If you have no intentions of taking the projector on the road but still want the portability to move the projector within the office or classroom a projector in the 10-12 pound range should be considered.

Permanent Mounting

If portability isn’t an issue, and you will be mounting the projector, look at projectors that fit your budget and meet your lumen (brightness) and feature requirements first. You might end up with a projector that is over 12 pounds, but has all of the bells and whistles that you wanted.
